Ball mills have many different types of steel balls, such as forged and cast steel balls.  Among them, forged steel balls are called forged balls; cast steel balls are called cast balls, which are pided into high, medium and low chromium, and each ball of the ball mill.

1.The quality index of forged ball

Forging balls are made of round steel with different processes and the carbon content is less than 1.0%. The quality of the material is very important to the quality of the product (alloy elements). There is no gate on the surface and the ball will not deform during the grinding process. It's always spherical. Current production processes include air hammer forging and rotary cutting.

2. Quality Indicators of High Chromium Balls

Chromium content (> 10.0%) and carbon content between 1.80% and 3.20% are called high chromium spheres. The national standard requires high chromium ball hardness (HRC) > 58 or higher, impact value AK

3.The quality index of medium chromium ball

The chromium content is between 3.0% and 7.0%, and the carbon content is between 1.80% and 3.20%. The impact value is AK (> 2.0J/cm2). National standards require chromium ball hardness (HRC) to be greater than or equal to 47. In order to ensure the quality of steel balls, chromium balls need to be tempered at high temperature (in order to eliminate casting stress). For example, the surface of the steel ball is dark red, indicating that the product has undergone high temperature tempering, such as the surface of the steel ball is still metal. This shows that the product has not been tempered at high temperature.

4. Quality Indicators of Low Chromium Balls

Chromium content is 0.5% - 2.5%, carbon content is between 1.80% - 3.20%, called low chromium ball. The national standard requires that the hardness of low chromium spheres (HRC) be greater than 45 or higher, and the impact value AK be greater than 1.5J/cm. 2. In order to ensure the quality of steel balls, low chromium balls also need to be tempered at high temperature (to eliminate casting stress). For example, the surface of steel balls is dark red, indicating that the products have been tempered at high temperature, such as the surface of steel balls is still metal. Natural color indicates that the product has not been tempered at high temperature.

The forged ball material is made of high quality steel, and the cast ball material is scrap iron; the forged ball is not easy to deform in the course of use because its surface quality is better than that of the cast ball; the cast ball is only suitable for dry grinding, and the forged ball is made of high quality steel, which has corrosion resistance and is suitable for both dry grinding and wet grinding.
